Raising A Reader

Children are readingMany children with language delays are at risk for developing reading difficulties. Nurture a love of books with your child by engaging them in reading daily. This will help build their vocabulary and help them do better in school. All children, from infants to teens, need to have opportunities to be exposed to books. Point to the words as you read and talk about what is happening as you read. Read aloud to your child and have them see you reading everyday as well. Take the time to visit the local public library.

For more suggestions on how to raise a reader, visit Reading Rockets, which is a national multimedia literacy initiative offering information and resources on how young kids learn to read, why so many struggle, and how caring adults can help. Their website is www.readingrockets.org.

Our “Pour Your Hearts Out” Food Drive was a great success! Thank you to so much to all of our therapists and staff who contributed to the success of this event. We also want to recognize Mr. Ardis Session, Jr. of Computerized Tax Facts, Inc. who also supported our efforts. We collected numerous amounts of non-perishable food items to share with our neighbors in need. Thanks for sharing the love with others in our community!

Team Communication Essentials “Went Red” on Friday, February 1st to increase awareness for women’s heart disease on National Wear Red Day! Heart disease is still the number one killer of women in the United States. It takes the life of one out of three women each year.

Many of our team members wore red shirts to show their support of this campaign, which is sponsored by the American Heart Association. We also had a variety of heart healthy snacks in the office for our therapists and administrative staff.

For more information about this effort, visit www.GoRedForWomen.org.
